MONTE VISTA – The Fall in Love with Jesus Nazarene block party was Sunday, Oct. 6, at 228 Madison St.

The event had many activities, including games for children. One of the most popular was a mechanical bull that children and adults could ride on.

As people walked into the area they signed up for a free lunch, that included a build-your-own burrito bowl provided by the Polished Bean. A chili cook off was inside the Nazarene gymnasium, where people could also sit and socialize.

Drift Away mobile coffee was at the event, giving coffee to people who had vouchers, that had visited prayer booths at the event.

Valley Church of the Nazarene member Roy Aiken said the block party was exciting.

“The Fall in Love with Jesus block party is the first of its kind ‘outreach’ of the Valley Church of the Nazarene. It is our hope that the party will inspire an interest in the gospel of Jesus Christ and inspire people to attend church.”

Aiken said that this could be something they do annually.

Millie Walker and her mother were at the event, and Walker was all smiles as she stepped up to ride the mechanical bull. The bull spun in circles and the little girl smiled and giggled as she rode the bull bravely, with her family members cheering her on. When asked if she thought it was fun she said, “Yes, I really like it.”

Children and adults were lined up to ride the mechanical bull.

Along with the activities there were booths including a pro-life booth, a sticker and decal booth for the kids. Lively worship music was played at the event.

The event was open to the public, and there were also brochures handed out with information about the Nazarene Church and different activities that take place there.

Resident Amanda Torres attended the event and although she is not a member of the church, she said it was a nice event for the kids.

“What I like is that my kids are having fun. The people don’t seem too pushy about the religious stuff, they offer you information if you want it, if not, they just tell you to have fun. My kids have ridden the mechanical bull and gotten some stickers, and some candy. This is a really fun event for our town,” she said.
