Creede 8-year-old wins Little Britches honors

Creede's Cole Chirstensen won top honors at the national Little Britches Rodeo competition in Pueblo last week. Competing in four events, the eight year-old captured the National finals All-round Championship and was named the reserve World Champion as well.

Recycle Creede asks BOCC for a Subsidy

Recycle Creede requested a subsidy for the Mineral County Commissioners at their regular monthly meeting Aug 2. Cary Bush from Recycle Creede told the commissioners that many people use her service and that it makes a great difference at the county landfill . All of the recycling material she takes in saves space at the landfill. Commissioners questioned the cost-effectiveness of the business and asked if there was any way that the business could break even. Bush said they will likely need the  subsidy, but the service is important to the community and that it helps the land fill.

More mushrooms, more fun(gi): a full weekend of forays in the county

Creede's Annual Mushroom Foray is the most popular of Mineral County's August events. Delectably delicious or deadly poisonous? Mycologists and local mushroomers will search out, identify and cook the wild mushrooms of Mineral County. Mycologist Larry Renshaw will present a slide show on Friday. Local Mushroomers will hunt out the hiding places of the elusive fungi. Groups will spend the morning in the field.

Tad will go to Switzerland

Tad Dooley, son of Bill Dooley of Creede and Melanie of San Diego, has been selected as a Foreign Exchange Student to spend his junior year of high school in Switzerland. 

Painters delight

The Bristol Inn Summer Workshop Series continues this week and next with painters of all kinds in mind. Cathy Ledeker will begin a series of watercolor workshops and Lanny Grant from Silt, Colorado will provide instructions on oil paintings.

The Creede Candle

AN ACT OF PROVIDENCE
Last Monday a cloudburst or maybe a waterspout has uncovered an outcrop of sulphur pure of splendid values.  The acts of God most of put nature within the man's efforts to discover these findings on Friday, said the Sulfur Company's President Mr. Little of Meridian, Mississippi.  Immediately on arrival Mr. Little started towards the beds for an investigation.

ELLSWORTH -- STRATTON
  Last Saturday Mrs. Louise Stratton, pretending of complaining of a severe toothache insisted that her Manager, Mr.Leary of the Big Store, allow her to go to Alamosa. On returning Monday, a wedding ring and happy smile was enough to cause an immediate finding with the result that even the kids Jazz band began confirming the suspicion of which was being aroused. The happy couple are well known in Creede.  Ellsworth has been in the employment of the D&RG railroad for years and both are popular in the Creede community.  The surprise of the participants in the above nuptials has raised the eire of their friends that there is talk of going before the town council and asking that a law be past making it a misdemeanor for parties to marry with out the knowledge of their friends.  The "Candle" wishing them joy.
