Wetherill to seek re-election as Mineral County Treasurer

MINERAL COUNTY — Mineral County Treasurer Amy Wetherill has served in office since previous Treasurer Patti Payne announced her retirement after 23 years in 2020. After being appointed to fill the position until the end of Payne’s term, Wetherill found that this was her calling and is seeking re-election in the November 2022 election.

“I was appointed to serve as the Mineral County Treasurer in January 2020, when Patti Payne retired after 23 years of dedicated service. Patti decided to retire before her term was up and I was honored that she chose me to fill her shoes for her remaining term. I had worked in the Mineral County Treasurer’s office as the Treasurer’s Assistant for two and a half years prior to my appointment,” Wetherill said.

According to Wetherill, the Treasurer’s Office collects county funds and property taxes. In late 2019, the state consolidated all services related to public trustee functions into the county Treasurer’s Office. The public trustee is a service that protects those who have borrowed money to buy properties, as well as lienholders and lenders. The office is also in charge of tax lien sales, foreclosures and bankruptcies dealing with properties.

“As the Treasurer, I will be overseeing the office’s transition to new software that is capable of finally sharing electronic data with both the County Assessor and County Finance department resulting in better synthesized information which improves the automation of the balancing process across all county department lines. This will remove some of the human error possibilities of manually inserting each of the county department’s financial information,” Wetherill said.

Beyond improving the Treasurer’s Office and its technology, Wetherill continues to be passionate about her position.

“I take pride that since I have been your Mineral County Treasurer everything has been balanced to the penny and I look forward to the opportunity to continue to do that for the next four years. I also serve Mineral County as a volunteer Mineral County EMT and Search and Rescue Team Member. In all the positions that I serve Mineral County I enjoy working with others and appreciate the importance of working with others and working across departmental lines to better serve our community,” she said.
