Mining association to explore Creede
Any summer day in the high country finds a healthy amount of tourists enjoying Creede, but be prepared for a traffic gridlock from Thursday, June 4 to Sunday, June 7, when the Mining History Association holds its 20th annual summer conference in Creede.

RG initiative update given to MC BOCC
Mineral County’s two newly elected county commissioners, Jim Adelman and Chuck Fairchild, spent their first official meeting Feb. 2 helping preserve acreage along the Rio Grande. Rio Grande Headwaters Land Trust (RiGHT) Executive Director Nancy Butler spoke and gave an update on the Rio Grande Initiative.

The Creede Town Board of Trustees held its monthly meeting Tuesday, Feb. 10, discussing the recent temporary closure of the town’s child care center and the town’s mining history, among other things.

Railroads battle heats up
The City of Creede filed a comment Feb. 4 with the Federal Surface Transportation Board and the Union Pacific Railroad to announce its interest in all portions of the railroad right-of-way that lies within its limits. But now that all the filings are complete, it looks like the city will have some competition.

Watson to direct “Destry Rides Again” at CRT
Bill Watson is set to direct the Creede Repertory Theatre’s opening of the season “Destry Rides Again” on June 10.

The local passenger train was a few hours late Monday on account of the engine becoming derailed at Phillips Spur.
 
General Superintendent, L.W. Bowen and Division Superintendent J.A. Sheered of the Durango and Rio Grande Railroad were in town on a tour of inspection Saturday.
 
Cliff Club of Creede is planning to give a masquerade ball Friday evening, Feb. 21— this being the biggest event of the season. The admission will be 50 cents.
