Pee wee wrestling finds its way back to Creede

CREEDE— Mineral County Commissioner and local resident Jesse Albright has joined forces with two other parents to bring back pee wee wrestling for the students in Creede. Albright, Greg Vanaken and Jeremy McComas decided it was long past time to have the sport for children ages six to 11 and so far, the team is doing great.

“I don’t know exactly how long it has been since a pee wee wrestling team was in the area, but it was long overdue. These guys have worked very hard and are doing really well, I wanted to let the rest of the community know what the team is up to,” said Albright. According to him, there are 10 children on the team, ages ranging from six to 11 and are divided up according to age and weight class when they compete.

Their first tournament took place against Monte Vista and two of the team members, Cooper Web and Jerimiah McComas took fourth place. “I was amazed with these guys. They were so nervous and didn’t really know what to do; I mean it was their first tournament, but they did a really great job,” said Albright.

For their second tournament they went against Sangre De Cristo where two team members took first place, Asher Albright and Juni Crews. “I once again just have to say that these kids are doing amazing. Our next tournament is in Center and then again on March 31 in Del Norte.” The other team members are, Grayson Jones, River Fullen, Aiden Maze, Brody Web, Lexi Mead and Shaloni Flores.

Albright set out with a goal when he was elected as a county commissioner to get more activities for the younger crowd to do in Creede and pee wee wrestling has been a great start.
