Local resident to run for county treasurer seat

CREEDE— Mineral County will be holding their general election in November and almost every position is up for those wanting to run. The first person who has stepped up to the plate to announce her candidacy for county treasurer is local resident Lauri Jordan.

Jordan invites anyone to strike up a conversation with her to hear about how she is a native of the San Luis Valley and permanent resident of Mineral County stating, “Just speak with me and you will see my desire and determination to help this community.” As Jordan describes her family history in the area and around the Valley it is easy to surmise why she has a desire to help her community and run for this particular office.

Jordan’s family history is paramount in the Wagon Wheel Gap and Cottonwood Cove, where anyone traveling through the area can see where her family commitment and community growth began.

According to a friend, “Lauri is the granddaughter of Bibs and Nell Wyley, who were founders, operators and owners of Cottonwood Cove for over 37 years. Bibs and Nell were both elected to and served on numerous boards over their 40 plus years of service to Mineral County.

Lauri’s mother, Gea Wyley, followed in her parents’ footsteps by being elected to the office of Mineral County Clerk and Recorder where she served for 11 and one-half years.

In following tradition, Lauri has hit the ground running. She has committed to her community through hours of volunteer work for Days of '92 Mining competitions, City of Creede Planning and Zoning, Creede Chamber of Commerce, Creede Schools, Mineral County deputy registrar and City of Creede election judge. She is also an active member and Treasurer for the Creede Historical Society.

This is not a decision made on a whim. I know she has been interested in following her family’s deeply-rooted footprints for a very long time and this is the perfect fit. She always said patience would prevail. Lauri is very approachable and one can tell she has never met a stranger. She prides herself in a positive attitude, always a team player and has extensive experience in customer service, collections and bookkeeping. Needless to say, she knows things.”

Jordan would appreciate support in the upcoming election for Mineral County treasurer.
