Funds from Emergency Services dinner distributed

CREEDE—On Sept. 5, Friends of Mineral County Emergency Services (FOMCES) chairs Carl and JoAnn Hill, presented checks for $18,250 to each of the Mineral County Emergency Service organizations: search and rescue, ambulance, and fire department. FOMCES raised $60,173.53 this year bringing the total amount raised for the last four events to $153,000.
The FOMCES board members want to thank everyone who volunteered to help make the dinner and auctions a financial success.
A special thanks to the four speakers who shared moving testimonies of SAR rescues, including one man that credits EMTs for literally saving his life during the past year.
Thanks to the red aproned “Gumbo Cooking Krewe” headed by Mark Hebert, who not only cooked and prepared the delicious meals during the three days prior to the event, but who navigated prompt serving in very close quarters at the Community Center filled to maximum seating capacity.
Thanks to those tireless volunteers who set up, cleaned up and put away all those table and chairs.
Thanks to Jon Harshaw and his team of volunteers, who kept tabs on all the donated items, set up and coordinated both the silent and live auctions. Thanks to all the businesses, friends and sponsors who graciously donated items. And most importantly, thanks to all the winning bidders who gave because they understood it’s not the value of the item, but the value of the service.
Thanks to some of the best bakers in town who donated scrumptious pies, cinnamon rolls and other baked goods for such a good cause. Those culinary delights alone raised over one thousand dollars.
Thanks to Terry Wetherill for his very informative PowerPoint presentation recognizing all the sponsors and donors and helping the auction attendees understand the current needs among all the emergency services: SAR, ambulance and fire department.
Thanks to all the behind-the-scenes volunteers who never refused to respond to a request for help. They were always solving: planning and coordinating issues, logistic problems, soliciting donations, selling dinner tickets, improving communications and publicity. It takes a village to make this happen. The FOMCES board again thanks all who participated in making this fundraiser such a success.
Mark your calendars, clean your clubs for the first annual FOMCES golf tournament on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at the Rio Grande Club in South Fork.
