CREEDE— Creede had five middle school athletes in track this season: Ryder Whitehorn, Garin Heinrich, Zach Romero, Jenna Fairchild and Ellie Jerabek. The middle schoolers had three track meets where they competed in discus, shot put, long jump, high jump, 800m and the 200m. Each athlete set a personal record in their event and continued to improve as the season came to an end.
There were two high school track athletes this season— senior Casper Freedle and sophomore Fletcher Madrid. High school went to 10 track meets and competed in discus, shot put, long jump, high jump and the 100m.
Madrid set a PR for the 100m and discus at his first track meet. His speed continued to improve throughout the season. Madrid consistently placed in the top eight in shot put and the 100m. He was awarded with Southern Peaks League All Conference 100m.
Freedle started the season off strong with back to back gold medals and a championship t-shirt in discus. He qualified for the state track meet fairly quickly in the season and held on to his third seed ranking for 1A discus through the end of the season. He received the Southern Peaks League Award in both shot put and discus.
Freedle competed in discus at the State Track Meet in Denver on May 17, hurling a 120’ 3” to place sixth in the event. This was his third time representing the Creede Miners at state with Coach Nancy Leggitt and Coach Katlin Vanaken by his side.
