Creede sends off 2017 graduates

CREEDE—The Ruth Humphreys Brown Theatre was packed to the brim on June 1 with friends and family for this year’s 2017 graduating class. The graduates chose to have their graduation at the theatre for the atmosphere and close-knit seating that would allow a more intimate scene. The theatre was adorned with silver lighted stars, hung along the beams on the ceiling and scattered along the floor, for a mystic touch. As the crowd gathered in the main theatre, fellow students gathered to await the arrival of the graduates and to congratulate them on their achievements.
This year, the Creede school was pleased to have four students in their senior class, each one unique and dedicated and ready to head into the world to do amazing things. The ceremony began with a slideshow of the students throughout their years from a young age until more recent days. The attending crowd laughed and cried during the slideshow before applauding the seniors.
This year the students were pleased to be the second class to graduate from the new school and the last class to graduate under the supervision of Superintendent Buck Stroh. Stroh and his wife were in attendance to see the seniors off on their new journeys. After 35 years of service to the school, Stroh was pleased to make the opening speech, congratulating the graduates on a job well done.
Each student received scholarships from entities in and outside of the Valley. Creede School Principal John Goss presented the students with their awards and stated how proud he was of their achievements. All four students plan to attend college in the fall.
As with many seniors, the Creede graduates took a moment to recount the years they had in the Creede school and the memories that they will take with them on the road of life. Their class motto, “What we think, we become” was the foundation that formed the rest of the ceremony. The class flower was a desert rose. Class colors were lavender and taupe and the class song was “Thanks for the Memories” by Fallout Boy.
Congratulations, class of 2017!
