Creede School District Board Highlights – Meeting of May 26, 2020

Attendance – Present via Zoom videoconference: Kara Brittain, Dave Robinson, Casey Adelman, Jen Harbert and Tim Bachica.


Reports: Highlights from the Superintendent/Principal/Dean of Students included the following – They’ve been holding “Staff Jams” every Monday these last couple of months (during COVID-19) have been a good way for faculty to stay on the same page. Graduation was a success and it was fun to have 9 News in town and at graduation ceremony. We anticipate a 4-5 minute segment in the near future. Mr. Goss noted that this last year has been really different and difficult with so many recent transitions, but the admin team is very grateful for the remarkable staff who are looking toward a positive future!!


Employment: Tim Schrag (Art Teacher), Tami Sliwkowski (Kindergarten), and Kim Kuda (addition Athletic Director)

Business Items:   
• Lori Heinrich presented the Financial Report and a Rough Draft budget for 2020/2021 School Year. Our budget looks very different from the last couple of years. We are anticipating a 10-20% reduction in overall funding (due to COVID-19) so the admin, staff, and Board are working to find ways to make big reductions in spending without impacting the quality of education we provide.


• Keith Crispell presented the enrollment Report for anticipated 2020/2021 Student Enrollment. Estimated enrollment is 79.5 FTEs at this time. This number will fluctuate, as we get closer to August.


• Wes Hargreaves reported that he’s swapped out the bus barn light and added a shield so it’s not so bright.


• The District has responded to a “Colorado Open Records Act” request by supplying the proper records.


• David Robinson reported that a final offer and contract for incoming Superintendent is being worked on by the school’s legal team.


Action Items:
• The Board approved the Employee Contracts for the Hiring Committee’s recommended new hires (see above).
