Creede man dies in motorcycle crash

MINERAL COUNTY — A Creede man died in a motorcycle crash on Friday, Aug. 5, according to the Colorado State Patrol. In a separate incident the same day also on Highway 149, a Creede woman was involved in a single-vehicle crash.

At approximately 5:43 p.m., CSP responded to a motorcycle crash on Colorado Highway 149 about 6 miles south of Creede in Mineral County.

The investigation showed that a 2013 Harley Davidson Electra Glide motorcycle, driven by a 53-year-old male from Creede, was southbound at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control around a left-hand curve in the roadway, CSP reported.

The motorcycle traveled off the right side of the roadway where it rolled multiple times and ejected the driver. The driver sustained fatal injuries due to the crash, CSP reported. Speed was a contributing factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.

At 5:59 p.m., while rescue personnel was going to the motorcycle crash they came upon another crash on Colorado Highway 149 approximately one mile south of Creede.

A 2006 Jeep Commander, driven by a 46-year-old woman from Creede, was southbound when the driver failed to negotiate a left-hand curve in the roadway, CSP reported.

The vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway striking a delineator post with its right front. The driver over-corrected and began to rotate counter-clockwise sliding broadside across the roadway, CSP reported. The vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway and rolled one-half time coming to rest on its top facing west. The driver was uninjured.

Alcohol and distracted driving are considered to be factors in the crash, CSP reported. The crash remains under investigation.
