CREEDE — With summer just around the corner, the Creede Ladies Aid Society is well on its way to planning the annual Rummage Sale and Bazaar on July 13-14. Over the past two years, the society has seen a significant increase in need in the Creede community mostly due to the conditions created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Creede Ladies Aid President Lori Dooley, the society has helped local people with rent, utilities, food and more.

“It has been amazing to see the increase in need in the community and we are so blessed to be able to offer our assistance. It is a blessing for all of us,” Dooley said.

Another driving factor in the growth of need in the community as the year progresses is inflation and rising gas and food prices.

“We have helped fill propane tanks, purchase food and have been able to help local veterans travel for doctor appointments and other needs. We are looking forward to being able to continue to help the community in any way we can,” stated Dooley.

With more people in need, the society is looking forward to their largest fundraising event of the year and will begin to accept donations as soon as July 11. The event is one of the only fundraisers the organization puts on throughout the year and it is the perfect opportunity to turn one person's junk into another person’s treasure.

The Ladies Aid Society is the oldest service organization in Creede, established back in 1899. Being a small town, residents have had to rely upon one another in times of need. In true community spirit, the Ladies Aid Society continues to this day its mission of providing financial assistance to neighbors experiencing unexpected misfortune, with the Rummage Sale proceeds being its major fundraiser.

The town gym will be filled with clothing, home goods, furniture, plants, books, jewelry, a Christmas Corner, and much more. As you enter Creede from the south, continue straight ahead at the gas station onto La Garita Street. The town gym is located in the old school complex on the right.

Wednesday’s schedule, July 13, begins with doors opening at 8 a.m. This day will include the rummage sale, as well as the bazaar, featuring homemade baked goods and crafts. A popular item, the Ladies Aid’s famous Chile Relleno casserole, will be available for purchase. In addition, at 10:30 a.m. there will be an auction of a select pick of special and interesting donated items. The day ends at 2 p.m.

Thursday, July 14, will feature the Rummage Sale only, beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at noon. There will be refreshments for sale in the kitchen area on both days.

The society is always seeking new members and have added quite a few in the last year. Ladies Aid will also help pick up donations beginning July 11 and 12. For assistance, contact Dooley at 719-588-7589.
