Trial held over until mid-July

At a trial held in Del Norte, many Creede locals were called to speak regarding the road access suit that will determine whether Jack Morris will be able to use the road referred to as the Last Chance Road to continue his mining and historical operations at the Last Chance Mine.

Clubs donate time and manpower to RGNF

Nine members of the Snow Country Explorers and Creede OHV Club joined forces to help the Rio Grande National Forrest Service complete the assembly of 172 new picnic tables. These tables will be used to replace the old and weathered tables that presently are being used in the local campgrounds.

Creede cemetery beautiful on Memorial Day

Once again this Memorial Day Creede's Cemetery stood proud of its heritage. Many graves showed all kinds of flowers and some live plants  were blooming.

Rebuild likely for the Mineral County Airport

Details are still sketchy, but it looks like the reconstruction of State Highway 149 will bring the contractor right to the airport's door which offers an opportunity for the projects costs to look better than ever. The airport originally constructed in the 1970s has been subject to repeated maintenance, but the runway has reached a point where major reconstruction is inevitable.

NEWS NOTES
 
 County Clerk Messinger reports the sale of one-hundred and forty licenses on May 25th, the first day of open fishing.  This is about one third of the usual sales each year although the number increases each year as the number of tourists and visitors increase.

  A San Luis Valley baseball league has been developed through the activities and efforts of the Federated Commercial clubs.  A series of 150 games will be played commencing on Decoration Day and ending Labor Day.  All towns in the valley are to have ball clubs of local talent only.
 
  The first dance of the season was pulled off at Wagon Wheel Gap last Thursday night, a large number of our young folks attending.  We learned that it is probable the Hot Springs Hotel will not be opened this year and if at all not before August the first.  The bath plunges will soon be open for bathers whether the hotel opens or not.
