CREEDE — The warm weekend brought holiday shoppers to Creede. People ventured, not only to find the perfect gift for loved ones but to enjoy a weekend of chocolate treats made by local business owners and organizations for the annual Creede Chocolate Festival.

According to reports, the Creede and Mineral County Chamber of Commerce sold out on both days for the festival and everyone who was in attendance was hard-pressed to vote for their favorite chocolatey treats. Several stores and local organizations like the Mineral County Sheriff’s Department pulled out their best both in displays and their homemade treats.

On Friday, Nov. 26, the winners included Best Chocolate that went to Freemon’s Guest Ranch, Wava Bakery which was housed in the Blue Yak Salon and Best Presentation went to Mineral County Sheriff’s Department which won this award for both days.

The streets in Creede were bustling with holiday shoppers as they wandered Main Street taking advantage of the warm weather. Local businesses pulled out all of their annual sales and offered unique gift opportunities to visitors.

On Saturday, Nov. 27, the town was once again full of lively visitors ready to enjoy a holiday getaway in the small mountain town. As previously mentioned, the Mineral County Sheriff’s Department won Best Presentation and the winner of Best Chocolate went to San Juan Sports.

The Creede and Mineral County Chamber gave a shout-out to the festival participants and people who sampled chocolate saying, “Many thanks to everyone that made this year’s Chocolate Festival a success.”

Next up for Creede is a new event hosted by the town to encourage holiday decorations in local businesses which will include a mention in the Mineral County Miner and a cash prize. The winners will be announced on Dec. 10. Mineral County 4-H will be judging the competition.
