Creede BOE upcoming election

BOE candidates Tim Bachicha (l) and David Robinson (r) are two of the candidates running for re-election on the Creede Board of Education.

CREEDE- The Creede Board of Education has change on the horizon as the November elections draw near. All five seats are up for election and according to sources all five current members of the board are rerunning for their positions. In addition to the five incumbents, there are two challengers who are also running for seats on the board.
Over the last two years, the school has undergone several changes that began when the board turned over two seats in light of many resignations. The new members served partial terms and are running for re-election this fall.
Tim Bachicha took time to speak with the Mineral County Miner to explain why he was running again for his position on the school board. “I was elected in June. There were four empty seats on the board at the time and I took the last one. I consider it a privilege to serve this community and the school. I am looking forward to the election and fully support the future board.”
Bachicha also stated that his main goals would be to resolve the transportation issue between the Del Norte School District and Creede School District stating that it was a matter of student safety and that a discussion between the two entities would be highly beneficial. “We have students who travel between the two schools for sports events and it really comes down to student safety. I know there is a resolution there, we just have to find it.”
Bachicha comes to the board with a wide variety of unique skills that he is eager to use in order to benefit the school and the community.
David Robinson, another current board member also reached out to the newspaper to talk about his candidacy and the goals he has in mind for the coming term if elected. Robinson spent a considerable amount of his career as a teacher. He taught in the air force with a focus on search and rescue, as well as, aircraft design.
“I bring a unique appreciation for the difficulties with teaching and the educational process to the board. I know what it is like to struggle every day with small things like finances and low funding options. My main goal if elected would be to continue to seek out funding options and stabilize the schools funding. There are Bills currently being proposed in Colorado that could help us. I would like to see the school not be so dependent on grants.”
Robinson has also taken a personal interest in the Career Technical Education program at the high school and would like to see it promoted to the public more. “I want to see the program grow and for the community to start taking advantage of it and be more involved.”
