Creede BOE hears COVID update from principal

...

CREEDE — The Creede School District Board of Education hosted its first of the year meeting on Jan. 18 and after approving the agenda with changes, listened to a report from Creede High School Principal John Goss.

Goss said that though the school had a few difficult weeks navigating a rise in COVID cases throughout Mineral County, there was an end in sight.

“We are coming off a couple of difficult weeks, so I do not have a lot to report because we have only had about eight class days since the beginning of January but in that time, we were able to get back in the office and take care of some of the class changes that needed to be done.”

Goss said that he has started mid-year reviews with all the teachers and that they have some work to complete in the educator effectiveness program.

“They will be catching up on their professional progress and growth goals and explaining any obstacles and how they will overcome them if there are any and then we are setting the table for the year-end reviews that come at the end of the school year,” he said.

Next, CSD Superintendent Keith Crispell gave a brief report about the current state of COVID in the district and surrounding community.

“I had a report printed out but since then things have changed and it just shows that it is constantly evolving. We have been struggling with students and staff being here and we have had the highest number of cases in the county recently,” said Crispell.

The district returned to in-person learning on Tuesday, Jan. 25 and was able to remain in-person for the remainder of the month.

Crispell said that the school remains in constant contact with Silver Thread Public Health Director Tara Hardy and that Hardy agreed with how the school was handling the rise in cases.

Crispell said that according to information provided by Hardy, they were expecting cases to begin to drop.
