County offices move to new locations

CREEDE— Creede was packed over the Fourth of July holiday week, making it somewhat difficult for the county to move locations from the courthouse to their new spot up at the Bulldog Mine. After careful consideration of all options, Mineral County Commissioners felt that relocating the county offices to the mine was in the best interest of the county.
In a previous statement provided by Mineral County Commissioner Scott Lamb he said, “We have a lot of work ahead of us, and we looked at several options in the county as to where we could move the courthouse until the project is finished. There were some things we had to consider, but after careful consideration, we entered into a contract with Rio Grande Silver for the homestake office on the Bachelor Loop road. We looked into mobile units, the old elementary school and felt that this was our best option.”
The county began their move on July 2 and was able to finish by July 3, just before town exploded with well over 10,000 people to celebrate the holiday. In a statement provided by County Administrator Janelle Kukuk, she said that the county would be offering several alternative ways to reach the county offices throughout the duration of the project.
“Mineral County is open for business in our new location at the Bulldog Mine Administration building. The address (and yes it does work in Google Maps) is 624 Forest Rd 504.1A. We do understand that our new location is off the beaten path and that you may not want to drive up here to drop something off.  For this reason, we are offering several options for you to conduct business with all of us, clerk, treasurer, assessor, land use, commissioners and administrations. It is possible to renew license plates online at www.colorado.gov/renewplates. You can call the treasurer’s office 658-2325 and make tax payments via credit card over the phone. You can also call the land use office 658-2360 and pay permit fees over the phone via credit card. Of course, you can also mail your payments, documents, etc., to Mineral County, PO Box 70, Creede, CO 81130.  Finally, the Creede/Mineral County Chamber of Commerce has graciously allowed us to set up a drop-off box inside the Visitors Center at 904 S Main St. as well. This box will be picked up late morning M-F. The chamber’s summer hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Please don’t hesitate to call us if you have questions or concerns (658-2331).”
The Mineral County Sheriff’s Department has also moved locations to the Rio Grande National Forest Service office located on Main Street and can still be reached through their regular number at 658-2600.
